Here I’ve gathered my poems of Christmases past, I’ve secured them online with hopes they will last. If you’re inclined to take a jaunt down memory lane, Please enjoy the verses teased out of my brain.
Polly’s 2021 Christmas Poem
To my attention ‘twas it brought, really a simple request,
Please, one more poem before Christmas. So I’ll do my best.
‘Tis the last day Polly’s will be open this Xmas season,
Come in 9A to 1P, we’ll make deals within reason.
All decks will have discounts of 40% perhaps a bit more,
To divine their reductions, you must come through our door.
I won’t outright show or tell the exact dollars yule save,
To get the best bargain, your ask should be brave.
Now I’m not going to haphazardly give things away,
I must consider your offer prior to loading your sleigh.
Whether it’s a Poinsettia, a Holiday Pot, or a Wreath,
We’ll haggle a price which I can’t go beneath.
At which time agreeable terms are gleefully met,
I will tally the savings of which you will net.
Before you exit today I must tempt you once more,
With discounted Gift Cards for future use at our store.
The hour is getting late as I compose these last rhymes,
My clock keeps reminding, it’s way past my bedtime.
So I’ll close out these verses with some holiday cheer,
A Merry Christmas to you and a Happy New Year!
Polly’s 2020 Christmas Poem
In a year that was different, one we could not have planned,
Wearing masks, the new standard, friendly gatherings banned.
More time at home virtually working or schooling on Zoom,
Or perhaps binging some shows, never leaving your room.
A toll has been taken on our mental capacity,
But we will stand firm and show our tenacity.
We decked the halls early to gird our resolve,
Xmas tree up in October, a sin; this year…absolved.
This premature push to make things festive and merry,
Our supply lines so thin, of which we were wary.
First we ran out of Garland, and next our Poinsettias,
Would we run out of greens, trees? Oh, the hysteria!
Discussions were had, ‘shut down early’ the topic,
We’ve yet got great items, don’t be so myopic.
Need a last minute stunner: wreath, swag, or holiday pot?
Visit me Xmas Eve ‘morn, the deals assured to be hot!
As always, find gifts for those whom shopping is hard,
The go-to gift I suggest is a Polly’s Gift Card.
As in past years, the store’s open from 9:00 until 1:00,
Beyond this short time frame, I’m ending the fun.
Again, THANKS for reading my emails and for shopping at Polly’s,
May your New Year be Happy and your Christmas be Jolly!
My Christmas Eve Poem for 2019
If you’re a bit of a gambler, this year’s deal is your scene
It is time once again to spread holiday cheer,
With poems I muster shared electronically here.
I reviewed and recounted verses of the years past,
To bring you fresh content with each new e-blast.
I saw several years where I used copy and paste,
To recycle my text, lest it not go to waste.
Then a new thought occurred, to keep your attention,
Write original stanzas with the deals that I mention.
Entertaining you is one goal why I write these each season,
The true nature is capitalistic if you must know the reason.
To encourage your baser, bargain-shopping instincts,
Using last-minute deals, to which your urges are linked.
So, let me get to the point, the subject, the meat,
Why you should visit Polly’s tomorrow and not press delete.
My Christmas Eve hours will be from Nine am until One,
With a new way to deal, an idea I hope yule find fun.
All remaining holiday items start at half off their marked price,
Once all your items are rung, draw a card as your discount device.
The number, face-card, Ace, or wild Joker selected,
Will increase your discount, before your payment’s collected.
Numbered cards bump that 50 up two to ten percent more,
Face-cards add 15, an Ace plus 25, what a score!
If it’s the wild card you pull, odds are slim but a chance,
I’ll charge only one dollar, which should cause you to dance.
You may ask, what could Polly’s have left to make the effort worth the outing?
I’ll have you know the selection remaining is stellar, now stop all this doubting.
Holiday Pots greens-filled and full, Wreaths of all sizes and decked to the hilt,
Swags to hang too, Poinsettias so festive, and arrangements we’ve built.
Perhaps you need a last-minute gift for the one you’ve neglected,
Or for the holiday party that wasn’t expected.
So, hurry tomorrow to choose a few more decorations,
Impress family and guests here on Christmas vacation.
Remember I’m only here from Nine until One,
That’s when I’ll lock up, my dealing all done.
And if you’re too busy, can’t make it, I’ll understand,
The holidays can be hectic, your time’s in demand.
Thanks once again for reading my emails and for shopping at Polly’s,
May your New Year be Happy and your Christmas be Jolly!
Polly’s 2018 Last Christmas Verse
One I hope yule enjoy, it could have been worse 😉
Each Christmas season I increase my email barrage,
With hopes of adding new fans to Polly’s vast entourage.
Careful consideration I use when choosing my words,
To ensure novel stanzas which haven’t been heard.
Filling each line with clever Christmas-style jingles,
To make you feel jolly & bring out your inner Kris Kringle.
The moment I feel I have your undivided attention,
I’ll cut to the chase and reveal my intention.
The goal is to entice you with each witty verse.
To turn out your pockets or empty your purse.
I’m mostly joking about that, but admit I do want your money,
Though with time running short I need to coax you with honey.
The reason I implore you to exit your home,
And travel to Polly’s, it’s not much of a roam.
There are decorations remaining for outdoors and in,
Which I’d rather re-home than toss in the bin.
So this Monday, upcoming, the date is 12/24,
I’ll be making great deals while manning the store.
Time is quite crucial, we’ll only be open from 9 until 1,
If you haven’t visited by then, no more deals will be done.
No specific percentage or amount I’ll mark down,
I’d prefer to make everyone happy, no room for a frown.
I’ll just ask you consider the price which you find,
Then make a reasonable offer you think I won’t mind.
40% Off was the last overall price-reduction,
Start with this number as your bottom-line function.
I won’t give things away, that would be silly,
But how low is too low? Take a chance, really.
Come find a poinsettia, a Christmas arrangement for gifts,
The price you’ll be setting will be sure to uplift.
Perhaps festive holiday pots, green wreaths, or decked swags,
Will garner notoriety, renown, and plentiful brags.
Regardless your choices, rest assured they’ll be fine,
And all the loot that you’ll save you can bring extra wine!
So mark up your calendar, set alerts, pin a note,
Come to Polly’s on Monday by car, plane, or boat.
You must hurry in, don’t let too much time fly,
Selection will dwindle at the hours tick by.
This lyric writing exercise is becoming tradition,
Truth, be it told, entertaining is my mission.
Thanks once again for reading my emails and for shopping at Polly’s,
May your New Year be Happy and your Christmas be Jolly!
Polly’s 2017 Christmas Verse
I hope you enjoy, it could have been worse 😉
I send extra emails ’round this time every year,
Offering holiday savings and to bring you good cheer.
My apologies if you find it overwhelms your inbox,
‘Tis the best way to reach out to our loyal Polly’s flock.
Electronic announcements we entice you to read,
Using marketing tactics to turn want into NEED.
Showing you pictures of wreaths, trees, poinsettias,
Garland roping, arrangements, or how to decorate better.
As Christmas draws closer, we increase the barrage,
House already decked? How about your garage?
At first, you’d consider this a ridiculous notion,
Until you read on, about our latest promotion.
With only one final day for our doors to be open,
We’ll bring you the deal for which you’ve been hoping.
Our Saturday hours on 12/23,
Are from 9 in the am until the clock says it’s 3.
During that time, you must come to the store,
Suggest a low price to pay, and not a cent more.
I’ll consider your bid or reasonable offer,
I’d rather move product than fill up the coffer.
So, if you still need a tree, greens, wreath, or a swag,
Get yoursElf in to Polly’s, don’t let your feet drag.
Poinsettias, Christmas Cactus, & centerpieces remain,
To adorn festive tables where you entertain.
And I won’t be the only one with whom you can deal,
The boss will be here also, yes, the Big Wheel.
She took the last shift, while she still can,
Before she heads south to work on her tan.
Perhaps you’re a gambler and you’ve been holding out,
Or procrastination’s your vice (it’s surely mine, there’s no doubt.)
But you must hurry in, don’t let too much time fly,
Selection will dwindle as the hours go by.
Thanks again for reading our emails and for shopping at Polly’s,
May your New Year be Happy and your Christmas be Jolly!
2016
‘Twas overheard rhyming verses is what you’ve been yearning,
I hope you’ll understand, both ends of my candle are burning.
Seems the more years that I work here, the more hats I do don,
So my chances to write clever verses has dwindled to one.
Here it is now, the morning before the night before Christmas day,
And I’m sure you are wondering what offers this email is to convey.
My time is near up and my creativity ’tis waning,
I must recycle several stanzas to lessen mind-straining.
Perhaps you’re Decking is lacking ’cause you tend to straggle,
Visit us all day Friday (from 9a-5p) ready to haggle.
It has come down to the last shopping minutes and hours,
I have decided to save my energy and deal-making powers.
No set reductions or special offers in print,
Nor percentage mark-downs to give you a hint.
You’ll have to come for a visit on the last shopping day,
Tell me what you must have and what you’re willing to pay.
There’s a fine assortment of holiday pots, wreaths, planters, and swags,
Or garden gifts, Poinsettias, and Christmas arrangements worthy of brags!
I invite you to hurry, come one and come ALL,
Connor, Greta, & I will be middling versions of the great Monty Hall.
There’s nothing behind curtains or doors Three, Two or One,
No need to wear silly costumes to get the job done.
If you’re still unsure of this last-minute deal for the final hours of our season,
Come in, pick anything you want, make an offer you think is within reason.
Feel free to be bold with your reasonable offers,
I’d rather move out this product than fill up my coffers.
Just remember that we’re only here Friday from 9 until 5,
We’ll be closed the 24th so our elves can go on with their lives.
Thanks again for reading our emails and for shopping at Polly’s,
May your New Year be Happy and your Christmas be Jolly!
2013 – 2015 Polly’s Christmas Eve, Eve’s rhyme
(14 & 15’s inspiration ran short, or perhaps I lacked time)
I’m sure you have been wondering where I’ve been this holiday season?
And those goofy, 12-Days of Christmas emails you’ve loved reading…for no particular reason?
I could start with excuses or make up some silly rhyme.
It’s too late for that now so I’ll save your precious time.
Perhaps you’re Decking’s incomplete ’cause you tend to straggle,
I’ll be here Christmas Eve Day (from 9a-1p) ready to haggle.
If you’ve been too busy elsewhere or perhaps praying for snow,
I’ve taken fresh pictures at our store and placed them below.
There’s a fine mix of Christmas trees, holiday pots, wreaths, and swags,
Or garden gifts, Rustic Reindeer and Christmas arrangements worthy of brags!
I invite you to hurry, come one and come ALL,
I’ll be doing a mediocre impression of the great Monty Hall.
There’s nothing behind curtains or doors Three, Two or One,
No need to wear silly costumes to get the job done.
In case you’re still unsure of this last-minute deal for the final hours of our season,
Come in, pick out anything you want, and make me an offer you think is within reason.
Feel free to be bold with your reasonable offers,
I’d rather move out this product than fill up my coffers.
Just remember that I’ll only be here from 9 until 1,
When it’s an hour past 12, no more deals will be done.
Thanks again for reading our emails and for shopping at Polly’s,
May your New Year be Happy and your Christmas be Jolly!
2012
I know that our 12 Days of Deals ended on Sunday,
But I’m heading into the store, we’ll be open on Monday.
I’ll unlock the front door after I open the gate,
Just for a short time (9 ’til 1) do not hesitate.
The reason I’ll be there, besides getting paid,
There’s stuff left to sell and deals to be made.
So visit me early, before I take lunch,
I’ll work with you closely to save you a bunch!
So with that bit of info safely under your hair,
I’ll share my poem from last year, just too good not to share!
2011
‘Twas the night before, the night before Christmas, when all o’er the net,
Anxious gardeners were drooling, making their mouse & keyboard wet.
The stockings were hung in the email background with care,
In hopes that Polly’s 12th Day of Christmas Deals email soon would be there.
The perennials were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of fertilizer danced in their heads.
Eleven days come and gone with great deals that were had,
One more deal to be made, those who missed would be sad.
When far out in cyberspace there arose such a clatter,
I sprang to my computer to see what was the matter.
Away to my Windows (or Mac) I flew like a flash,
Clicked on my inbox and prayed “please, do not crash!”
The skiers & Elves busy dancing, hoping for new fallen snow,
Christmas just ’round the corner, only one day to go.
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
The 12th Day Deal so appealing, my creditors showed no fear.
We’re only open a short time (9 to 1), so you’ll have to be quick,
And keep praying for snow, at least some that’ll stick.
I hope you’ve enjoyed these emails and for playing our 12 Day game,
My humor isn’t for everyone, my wife thinks it’s lame.
I could keep writing these verses, and waste some more time,
But my brain’s getting tired, trouble finding the rhymes.
I have appreciated your comments, so many were kind,
But hurry right in tomorrow, there are great deals left to find.
Thanks for shopping locally,
And clearing our shelves,
Merry Christmas to you,
From all Polly’s Elves!
